Portrait of Rachel McAdams, I recorded the whole rendering process and uploaded it to youtube, check it out and thumbs up :)

To get the initial outline, i fold a piece of newsprint paper into a grid, and fold the photo into a grid with the same dimensions. I then sketch the key facial lines onto the newsprint, and use a light box to transfer the sketch to stonehenge paper.

Yep! I find there is alot more control over gradations by following a sequential increase or decrease in pencil hardness.
